Excursions and Experiences
Many other possibilities such as carriage rides, horseback riding, jogging, skating, Nordic walking, as well as excursions to the surrounding area, e.g., to the Slavic fortress Raddusch or the mighty open-pit mining areas. The Spreewald is also a good fishing ground, as you can see. This 5kg carp was caught right at our boat dock. No, it didn’t end up in the kitchen, but is swimming again in the Leineweberfließ.
Burg, the Wellness Destination in the Spreewald
Fancy a bath in the Dead Sea? Located in one of Germany’s most idyllic landscapes, 100 km south of Berlin, lies the spa town of Burg (Spreewald) with its therapeutic spring facilities. It owes its title to the iodine-rich thermal brine extracted from a depth of 1350 meters. This is so richly mineralized that it can compete with the water of the Dead Sea. Thus, Burg offers health-oriented visitors an extraordinary opportunity to experience “the Dead Sea” and its benefits.
The cultural calendar is also filled each year with traditional and extraordinary events. Of course, the centuries-old customs of the Wends and Sorbs and their fascinating legendary figures play a significant role. Another highlight is the “Spreewälder Sagennacht” (Spreewald Night of Legends) at the Bismarck Tower. Every year at Pentecost.
